THE 6TH EDITION OF HERO MTB HIMALAYA- SHIMLA EDITION 2017
ATTRACTS MAXIMUM PARTICIPATION
Hero MTB Himalaya- Shimla Edition, more popularly known as Hero MTB Shimla is a two day MTB XC race that is held every year in the month of April. The host city, as suggested by the name is Shimla. The race takes the riders through some of the most pristine parts of theShivalik Mountains, also known as the lesser Himalayas or the foothills of the Himalayas. The race is set in a background that calls out to an adventure lover, a mountain biker, a nature lover, and asks them to get embodied in the serene Himalayas.
Travelling through Wildlife Sanctuaries, Himalayan countryside, streams and rivulets, participants experience everything pure that the Himalayas have to offer. The participants get to meet the most amazing people, and get to stay in the most beautiful locations, eat authentic delicacies and ride through the best terrain in India. The riders pedal their way through gut wrenching uphill tracks, Speedy downhill tracks, village back roads, beautiful meadows, thick vegetation, jeep tracks and savor real mountain biking as they travel around120 kilometers in 2 days with anelevation gain of 3500m and highest elevation of 2650m.
HIGHEST EVER PARTICIPATION
The event has grown exponentially over the years and receives participation from all over the country. This year the race will witness the highest ever participation in the history of the event. 130 ridersfrom over 7 nationalities(India, Nepal, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Czech Republic) and more than 20 citieswill be racing across the Shivalik Hills.
The event has not only achieved new records in terms of participation numbers but has also registered one of the highest female participation across all mountain biking races in the country.
11 females will be contending for theQueen of Shivalik title. The race has been instrumental in encouraging females to take up the sport. It will be interesting to see how the female participation will add the challenge to the race.
Professional cycling teams including Hero Action Team, Merida Cycling team, Team Lappierre and cycling groups including Gurgaon’s Pedalyatri, Jaipur’s Aravali Trail Hunters and Chandigarh’s Riders of Storm are participating in the race. Teams from defense forces- SSB and Indian Navy will also be taking part in the race taking the total participation to 130.
HERITAGE RIDE& CEREMONIAL FLAG OFF- EVENING CITY RIDE
A unique Heritage ride of the city has been planned by HASTPA on the evening of 14th April 2017 at 5PM.
The cyclists will travel a distance of 8kms in an evening ride of the city. The motive is to push the citizens of Shimla towards a greener and healthier lifestyle. A campaign Green Shimla, Healthy Shimla has also been pushed forward by HASTPA which will focus to raise awareness and benefits of cycling.
A special spectator point has been marked for the general public on Ridge to witness a first of it’s kind night ride of the Shimla city.
Last year Shimla was crowned at the Champion city.
Out of the 9 contenders for the trophy, boys from Shimla claimed the trophy with Devender winning the open men solo category and Akshit winning the student category.
Hero MTB Shimla 2016 had established itself to become a hunt to handpick the best MTB city of India. 6th edition of the race will offer more challenges with cities like Gurgaon, Manali, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bangaloreand Chandigarh participating in the race.
WHO’S GOT YOUR BACK?- INTRODUCING TEAM OF TWO CATEGORY
For the first time at Hero MTB Shimla, riders will be able to contend in team of two category.
The current categories include open men solo, open women solo, student category and masters solo.
With the introduction of new category, Indian riders will get a good exposure to riding in race formats followed by many international races like BikeTransalp – oldest MTB races in the world that witness participation in only team of two category testing now just riding skills but also teamwork and technical expertise.
