Himachal Pradesh: Sikyong release the textbooks for kindergarten

DHARAMSHALA: Sikyong and Education Kalon Dr Lobsang Sangay today released three Tibetan language textbooks to be taught at weekend language classes to Tibetan children in North America.

Education Secretary Dr Ngawang Rabgyal, Director of Education Council Mr Tsering Samdup, Director of Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society Mr Karma Chungdak and Principals of various Tibetan schools were present at the release of the textbooks.

The chief guest Sikyong and Education Kalon Dr Lobsang Sangay congratulated the excellent work by the Education council, especially in the promotion of accessible Tibetan learning channels, including the recently launched website, http://bodyiglobjong.com// for young Tibetans.

“In the 60 years of illegal occupation of Tibet, China has deviously sought to various methods and policies to completely destroy Tibetan culture, religion, language and Tibetans’ way of life. For any country, its language, culture and religion is its national identity and pride. Therefore, Tibetans inside Tibet and in exile have been determinedly taking actions to preserve and promote Tibetan language among the younger Tibetan generation,” Sikyong said.

“I applaud the Tibetan communities in North America, especially the voluntary teachers for organising weekend language class for the young children, the former and current representative of the Office of Tibet, Washington for their contribution in the project.”

The Director of Education council, Mr Tsering Samdup apprised the gathering of the upcoming release of Tibetan language textbooks for children of class 3, 4 and 5 and class 6, 7, 8 in September 2016.

The three textbooks will be taught to children of class 1, 2 and kindergarten during their weekend language class in various Tibetan communities in North America. The project was ideated by members of Tibetan community in North America, supported and facilitated by the former and current representatives of the Office of Tibet, Washington DC and finalised by the Department of Education, CTA.
